I’m Matt - a UX/UI Designer at Funtown Studio and a recent graduate in Interaction Design from the Cape Town Creative Academy. I’m passionate about creating intuitive, meaningful digital experiences that sit at the intersection of creativity, technology, and human-centered problem-solving.
My path to design has been shaped by a diverse set of experiences. After matriculating from Bishops Diocesan College in 2019, I took a gap year in Zimbabwe—an experience that, while cut short by the pandemic, taught me adaptability, self-reliance, and the value of cross-cultural communication. That year deeply influenced how I approach design: with empathy, openness, and an ability to work through uncertainty.
Before studying design, I worked full-time with an NGO, managing logistics and supplies for community feeding programs, and later interned at Ucook, where I gained hands-on experience with ERP systems in a fast-paced environment. These roles grounded me in operational thinking, systems awareness, and user-focused service delivery.
At the Cape Town Creative Academy, I honed my skills in UX/UI, research-led design, and systems thinking. During my studies, I led the UX work on Apollo Access, a collaborative startup project focused on secure digital platforms (details under NDA). This deepened my interest in designing products that are both technically sound and human-centered.
Now at Funtown Studio, I bring all of this experience into my work as a UX/UI designer—shaping digital products across mobile and web. I collaborate closely with developers, strategists, and visual designers to deliver engaging, functional, and playful user experiences from concept to launch. Whether building wireframes, refining interfaces, or iterating on feedback, I aim to create work that’s grounded in real user needs and thoughtful strategy.More...
