Delia Ackerman is an award-winning Peruvian documentary whose films deal with the conservation of nature, culture and memory. She was a Fulbright Scholar and holds a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Lima as well as a Master's Degree in Journalism from Columbia University, New York.
Her independent productions include: Runaways (1986), about minors prostituting themselves on the streets of New York; Lord of Pachacamac (1993), on the connection between ancient pre-Hispanic gods and modern Christian rituals; Co-directed Medicine of Forgiveness (2001), a trip to the world of Don Benito, a healer from the Amazon; Hands of God (2004), a tribute to the renowned percussionist Julio “Chocolate” Algendones; Returning to the Light (2008), about Holocaust survivors who began new lives in Peru; The King of the desert is dying (2008), about the disappearance of the irreplaceable trees of the Peruvian desert as a result of the coal industry; Co-directed Voices that Heal (2011), about a remarkable women healer in the Amazon who bridges the ancient wisdom with the modern world; Co-directed Mother Ocean (2011), on the threads to the ecology of the Peruvian sea; Wings of Life (2014), on human activity that accelerates the extinction of entire species a visual poem from the perspective of the birds on how the hand of humanity is accelerating rates of extinction of entire species, yet we behave as if we have forgotten that nature is the source and support for all life, including ours; “Wings of Life” (2014) about how the hand of humanity is accelerating rates of extinction of entire species; and Hatun Phaqcha_The Healing Land (2021), explores the ancestral nutritional culture that still survives in Peru to support the conservation of this valuable heritage and how its extraordinary biodiversity can be the source of health and healing for its population.More...
