Jesús Pérez Aparicio holds a degree in History from the University of Alcalá and a Higher Technician diploma in Image, specializing in Artistic Photography from Escuela de Arte 10, Madrid.
He has worked as a still photographer for over 20 years, collaborating with various editorial groups, most notably El País. Since arriving in São Luís, he has taken a deep interest in and fallen in love with the local Maranhense culture.
He was an assistant to Miguel Reveriego and participated in workshops with Isabel Muñoz, Rafael Navarro, Navia, and Sofía Moro.
Since moving to São Luís ten years ago, he began his training as a Director of Photography (DP) with professionals such as Alziro Barbosa, Roman Lechepallier, Afonso Beato, Ana Johan, Ana Rieper, and Marcelo Pedroso.
His notable works include the short film Aquarela from Maranhão, winner of the 46th Gramado Film Festival (camera assistant); Diana, which won Best Cinematography and Best Actress at the 12th Maranhão na Tela Festival; and Tú eres diferente, selected in over 12 festivals and winner of Best Cinematography at the 6th CineVirada Festival.
He also worked on color correction for George Pedrosa's films Macho Carne and Casa de Bonecas (winner of Best Art Direction at the 2023 Gramado Festival), as well as for the feature film De repente... Drag! by Rafaela Gonçalves.
In 2022, he directed his first documentary, Bastidores do Mistério, supported by the Aldir Blanc Law. So far, it has been selected in three festivals. In 2024, he directed another documentary titled Digital Originario.
He also taught cinematography in the film course coordinated by Sâmia Oliveira at IFMA (2017) and in the project Ilha em Edição 2 (2023), whose final work was the short film Marina.
Throughout these ten years living in São Luís, he has taken part in all kinds of audiovisual productions and advertising campaigns: documentaries, short films, music videos, TV spots, feature films, and film festivals.More...
