Mohd Shamir serve with CyberSecurity Malaysia, a government agency under the purview of the Ministry of Digital Malaysia for 18 years before retiring in July 2024. Before that he was in the Telco industry for 17 years. An engineer by training, he has 35 years of ICT and Telco working experience. He is a certified translator for English-Malay language. Professionally, Mohd Shamir is a certified professional in Critical Infrastructure Protection and an Associate Business Continuity Professional. In recognition for his contribution in information security, he is a recipient of the Information Security Leadership Achievement Award 2010 and Cybersecurity Leader of the Year 2022 - Tunisia Chapter. His final position as the Senior Vice President of the Government and International Engagement Division sees him heavily involved in the national and international cybersecurity platform such as being the Head of the Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation - Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT) and the Steering Committee (including being the Chairperson) of the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT). He also represent CyberSecurity Malaysia in other international fora as required. With the government sector, Mohd Shamir is very much involved with the ministries and government agencies fronting CyberSecurity Malaysia in providing the necessary information to keep the stakeholders updated on national cybersecurity matters. This include playing a major role in implementing the National Cybersecurity Policy and being in the national committee for mitigating cyber incidences.
