No buzzwords, clichés or labels were harmed in creating this profile! I've never been formally qualified for roles I've taken on. I jump in and learn what I need in the role, allowing me to be very effective wherever I worked. 1. At Computercentric: developing, maintaining and refactoring current applications; code generation; creating and optimising SQL (CTEs/TVFs etc) and transferring business rules to stored procedures; discovering requirements then designing new software to fit; mentoring; working directly with a client to co-code queries for their business. A recent example being a full Iscala export transaction system built from sql procedures and functions. 2. At Nisbets learning the business plus Oracle/T-SQL and the rest of their C#/VB code base in order to maintain and support it. 3. At CareDocs picking up residential/nursing care knowledge, general business and development skills including contract rescue. In this role I also deliberately acquired programming and analysis skills in SQL and .Net. I did the same for previous roles: negotiation, specifying, selling and implementing networks from the ground up and other mixed IT skills. I'm interested in many subjects, so I prefer to work in a creative, varied role requiring a mixture of soft and technical skills. Specialities: * Working with clients on complex requirements. * Consultative selling, negotiation and problem solving. * Software R & D. * Extrapolation from minimal information. Positions that offer autonomy, variety and require constant learning and problem solving interest me the most. I am happiest doing alongside or directly with clients as I find clarity in discovering what they need through discussion with them, frequently finding solution niether of us expected. In the last few years I've spent some time studying machine learning as well as using LLMs. I'm comfortable using AI to assist and accelerate development, where useful, but have a strong preference for using it to get over obstacles rather than starting with it.
