Verified
Tanya leads strategic, institution-wide fundraising efforts at Toronto Metropolitan University. She forges transformative partnerships and secures investments that advance innovation, equity, and excellence in post-secondary education. As co-founder of Recast Philanthropy, Tanya is not just a speaker or facilitator—she’s a catalyst for change in the charitable sector. Known for her unapologetic truth-telling and deep commitment to justice, she challenges conventional fundraising norms and calls the sector to reckon with power, equity, ethical gift acceptance, and the need for restorative, decolonized approaches to philanthropy. Her thought leadership has been featured in The Philanthropist, Advancing Philanthropy, University Affairs, and more. She has headlined national and international conferences including CAGP, CCAE, CASE, and Blackbaud Canada’s bbcon, and served as an expert facilitator at the world’s largest fundraising conference—where she interviewed Edgar Villanueva. A former instructor in the now-sunsetted Humber Fundraising program, Tanya now teaches in the Fundraising Management Certificate program at the Chang School, TMU. She holds an Honours BA in Political Science (McMaster), a Graduate Certificate in Marketing Communications (NYU), and a Master of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership (Carleton). She is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), a Communications Management Professional (CMP), a Master Financial Advisor – Philanthropy (MFA-P™), and has completed executive governance training.More...
