Sofia Stoimenova works at the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) as Chief Secretary, Head of Division for Prevention of Crisis situations and Rescue services. Member the Governing Board of BRC’s Mountain Rescue. She is a member of the Expert Council at the Ministry of Environment and Water in Bulgaria.
She has a strong background in Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. She was interim Head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Office for East Asia, based in Beijing, China until December 2015. Prior to this mission, she was part of the senior management team and for three years served at the position Head of Corporate Affairs at the IFRC’s Asia Pacific (AP) Office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Sofia has worked at the IFRC’s Secretariat in Geneva and IFRC’s Office for Europe region in Budapest, Hungary. She has experience in working with a variety of external partners (UN, IOM, and other); she is member of IFRC’s Advisory Body, of different Think tanks and has been member of IFRC’s assessment missions in Central Asia.
At present Sofia is a member of the IFRC’s Governing Board.
