He found his world turned upside down when his parents moved the family from Riverside, California to a cold, and very small town in Alaska in his early teen years. Little did he know that the vast differences in temperature, population, and even the culture of these two West Coast states would prepare him well for a life in the mission field and around the world.
It was here in Alaska that Ian experienced two personal encounters with the living God, and a call to missions and leadership that would change the course of his life. It would be 20 years before that call would come to fruition.
Ian went to college in Phoenix, Arizona chasing after a dream of playing baseball. What he would find instead was the opportunity from Jesus to lay that dream down and chase after the perfect dreams God had already prepared for him. In Phoenix he would meet his wife and begin a family and ministries in local churches.
Here his giftings within the Kingdom of God began to flourish. During those essential 20 years of waiting to be sent out Ian’s spiritual growth included, hearing the voice of God, signs and wonders, prayer, dreams and visions, and seeking the greater things Jesus talked about with His disciples.
Writing worship songs and leading worship became an on-going gifting and passion for the next 2 decades. Here too, his original call into a life of missions while in Alaska began to take sharp focus. God called Ian and his family out of their ministries in Phoenix into the beautiful and challenging land of Africa.
This is the reason that Ian and his wife Carla founded the Compelled Ones Mission. Compelled Ones is a team of missionaries focused on reaching the oral-only unreached communities in Mozambique through health care, education, community development, and making disciples that make disciples.
