Eric Dalimarta is a visual artist whose work is deeply influenced by his experiences in art and design. His first photographic series featured still-life images created using mixed materials and experimental lighting. Over time, these images evolved into graphic compositions that incorporated vibrant colors, influenced by his background in graphic design and his experience in a multimedia and audio-visual studio. Recently, much of his work has been inspired by urban structures, objects, and natural landscapes, through which he expresses his personal experiences with these subjects.
Born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, Eric graduated in 2002 from Trisakti University with a degree in Visual Communication Design. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Effects from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2007. During his college years, he was actively involved in various performance activities, notably in “Operet Kotak Pensil,” both onstage and behind the scenes. In graduate school, Eric contributed to film productions as part of the production and post-production teams and participated in several performances in front of the camera. He has worked across a diverse range of visual design fields, including graphic design, multimedia design, teaching assistance, video production, animation, visual effects production, and television commercial production.
Eric's first photography exhibition took place in 1994 in Jakarta, where he was the youngest participant. He also took part in two annual exhibitions organized by the Canisius Photography Club, which were held in prestigious plazas across Indonesia. His first exhibition in the United States occurred at Metro Coffee in Savannah, Georgia, in 2006, featuring images of Savannah's River Street and its vibrant activities. That same year, he participated in the “Open Studio” photo exhibition organized by the Photography Department at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.
