Innovative/Strategic Pharmacist focused on maximizing Healthcare Employee engagement by enhancing technology solutions. I can’t exactly say when I first got the idea to go into healthcare. It seems as though it has been a part of me as long as I can remember. I recall being asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
As we all know, every child gets asked this question. My answer, as far back as I can remember was “I want to be a Doctor!”
I didn’t end up going to medical school like my 5 year-old self wanted. I explored all different areas of healthcare, and decided that Pharmacy would be the best fit for me.
Right from the beginning of my career, I held firm to fulfilling my desire to keep people healthy. I noticed however, that not all of my peers shared the same commitment to empathetic patient care that I held. I began to coach my peers and co-workers to make sure they provided the best care possible for our patients. I had a positive impact on them which in turn created positive outcomes for our patients.
This was my entry into Pharmacy Management.
I learned quite quickly that managing a Pharmacy was more than just managing the people. I had to also manage the business and the “numbers” also. As it turned out, I was able to not only manage people, without any formal training, I was pretty good at managing the “numbers” as well. I loved being able to put my thumb on the balance and influence both the people and the numbers to positive outcomes. I had happy patients, and happy supervisors.
I truly enjoy the dual aspects of managing people and the business to produce great results. I certainly wanted to do more, but I noticed a looming barrier to further advancement. Most of the next level positions I was looking at to advance my career required a business degree.
I wasn’t going to let that stand in my way. So, after running multiple businesses units quite successfully, I went off to business school to obtain my MBA with a focus on Healthcare Administration.More...
