Sumaya Wadee accomplished her BA and post graduate LLB degree whilst being a mum of two and studying at the University of Witwatersrand. She worked in the trenches at the Johannesburg Regional Court as a Criminal Law public defender during her article clerkship.
She started private practice as a senior PA at the firm Saloojee Tayob ( ST Attorneys). She stepped out of corporate work when she sought to take control of her life and balance her professional journey with her family responsibility as well as pursue her passion for social development by establishing her own legal consultancy in January 2008. She worked in the non profit sphere from 2008 to 2020 when she started her own firm.
She is currently a co director of a female owned legal boutique firm and is still involved in several NGO empowerment and development projects.
She is an Executive Board member of the Civilian Crime Intelligence network which is an NPO established to create effective cohesive synergies for citizens in the fight against crime, and she sits on the Executive Board of the Islamic Helpline Lenasia & the boards of two NGO frail care centre projects namely the The Khadijatul Kubra Female Care centre for the frail and vulnerable and The Ahmed Mia Cassim Men’s care centre in Lenasia.
She is also one of the founding members of the Umar RA Legal Clinic in Lenasia , which is a portal for access to justice for the indigent accredited in 2017 & she served as the principle attorney at the Clinic from 2017 until 2023. She is also the founder and facilitator of a 2014 Digital Corizenship project for children in the Lenasia Community , called CybersafeKids South Africa which is a youth social responsibility initiative and she delivers presentations on being responsible and safe digital citizens to schools across Gauteng with her co-Director of AW Inc.
