After matriculating in 1975 I spent 10 years as a combat pilot in the South African Air Force.
I left the SA Air Force in 1985 and joined DHL International. I was promoted to General Manager South Africa 2 years later. During my tenure at DHL I was an integral member of the small team that facilitated DHL's transition from a small courier company into the global logistics giant that it has become.
In 1990 I was head-hunted into the Barlow Rand Group which quickly evolved into me being appointed Group Sales and Marketing Manager for the post-MBO Fidelity Guards Group.
After 4 years with FG, following personal turmoil, I resigned to pursue a career as an independent content writer, business consultant and author.
With the advent of GSM Cellular telephony, in late 1994 I was appointed Divisional Manager, Mobile Communications at Robert Bosch South Africa responsible for creating the new division from scratch.
In 3 years I built the division turnover from zero to R65 million pa with a staff of only myself and 2 assistants.
In 1997 I was then headhunted again to set up a JSE- listed VC company called Celtrack.
My functions at Celtrack as MD led to me establishing a joint-venture vehicle tracking company with Siemens Telecommunications called DUO.
I found great difficulty working within the rigid corporate dictates of Siemens and in 1999 I sold my shares in DUO and branched out into my own telecomms business which developed over the next 5 years into a group of companies called Quantum.
In 2011 I sold my interests in Quantum and then consulted with companies in the FMCG, telecoms and mining spaces until 2018 when I formed AbelhaMoz lda, a Mozambican company which produces world-class organic and medicinal honey from a network of around 1 100 hives in Inhambane Province, Mozambique.
I am still the executive Founder and CEO of AbelhaMoz.More...
