Costa Rican VacationsAccounting Manager
Oct. 2010 - Sep. 2018San José, Costa RicaManaging the financial infrastructure of the company, my time was split between 3 main accountabilities: (i) financial planning, (ii) financial reporting, and (iii) project management. On the financial planning side, I allocated and administered budgets, developed revenue and earnings forecasts to inform strategic decisions, and implemented cost controls to track expenses. Other tasks included building risk management and compliance frameworks to mitigate legal/reputational risk and managing the full spectrum of treasury activities to maintain adequate cash flow and working capital, service short-term vendor/debt obligations, and allocate capital effectively. From a reporting perspective, I was the main figurehead with lenders, Board members and investors as a sign-off on all external financial communications. To this end, I led all reporting processes from the general ledger to the trial balance to the final preparation of financial statements while complying with all requisite IFRS rules. Beyond my reporting capabilities though, I also instituted new performance management tools to track KPIs and provide management teams with actionable insights on strategy and operations. Lastly, from a project management perspective, I introduced new initiatives and projects to optimize and automate reporting capabilities. This included the implementation of the new SAP system, wherein I coordinated the transition from the legacy system, and supervised all aspects of implementation and testing to facilitate a successful launch with minimal downtime.
