Business Development Manager
Namu TravelBusiness Development Manager
Oct. 2018 - Apr. 2020San José, Costa RicaAs a growing travel agency in an increasingly digitalized landscape, we executed several organic investment and product development opportunities to impact both revenues and P&L. With consistent margins, revenue growth and free cash flows, we succeeded in creating value for shareholders. Some highlights of this growth were as follows: * Moving the company from a B2C sales model to include B2B; the shift in the end markets opened up a substantial growth platform with recurring customers and higher brand loyalty due to the added switching costs of moving from one agency to another. * Negotiating contracts with vendors to secure better terms on pricing, commission structures, barter initiatives and payment/cancellation timelines. * Travelling across the destination network to strengthen business relationships and establish greater buying power, which ultimately yielded larger trade discounts. Beyond business development, I’ve also played a major role in product development and marketing to stay current with changing customer preferences and a shifting B2C retail landscape. To this end, I’ve led the compilation of market research competitive intelligence to crystallize a unique value proposition and expand the product offering to include vacation packages in 3 new countries. A few other product-specific highlights include: * Building the annual strategic plan and operating roadmap to track operating efficiency, cost and ROI across marketing and sales channels, and re-focus resources and capital accordingly. * Piloting an innovative initiative to prepay hotel rooms at a discount with accommodation partners, thus guaranteeing availability in peak seasons while bolstering gross margins. * Launching a new transfer logistics initiative that enabled customers to save on transfer costs by sharing it with other customers. For the company, this also mitigated costs associated with the “empty foot” problem of having no customers on the return route.

Jan. 2014San Jose, Costa RicaTaking on the role of the CEO, I have spearheaded corporate strategy and tactical execution to win new consulting mandates from SMEs requiring expertise with matters in taxation, financial reporting, payroll management, and working capital management (AR/AP and inventories). Thus far, we have worked with 10+ clients to help them solve critical problems, optimize existing processes, and improve financial results. In several instances, we have helped expatriate entrepreneurs from the USA streamline their reporting and compliance procedures with Costa Rican regulations. Some of our key accomplishments for clients include: * Reviewing, adjusting and rebuilding previous year online entries in QuickBooks to increase the accuracy and reliability of financial statements produced. * Handling all treasury and cash-related activities including expense management, cash forecasting, working capital management, and short-term investments to enable the client to focus solely on scaling their business. * Helping clients save on in-house operating costs by serving as the outsourced Finance team to maintain their supplier relationships and coordinate vendor payments.

Oct. 2010 - Sep. 2018San José, Costa RicaManaging the financial infrastructure of the company, my time was split between 3 main accountabilities: (i) financial planning, (ii) financial reporting, and (iii) project management. On the financial planning side, I allocated and administered budgets, developed revenue and earnings forecasts to inform strategic decisions, and implemented cost controls to track expenses. Other tasks included building risk management and compliance frameworks to mitigate legal/reputational risk and managing the full spectrum of treasury activities to maintain adequate cash flow and working capital, service short-term vendor/debt obligations, and allocate capital effectively. From a reporting perspective, I was the main figurehead with lenders, Board members and investors as a sign-off on all external financial communications. To this end, I led all reporting processes from the general ledger to the trial balance to the final preparation of financial statements while complying with all requisite IFRS rules. Beyond my reporting capabilities though, I also instituted new performance management tools to track KPIs and provide management teams with actionable insights on strategy and operations. Lastly, from a project management perspective, I introduced new initiatives and projects to optimize and automate reporting capabilities. This included the implementation of the new SAP system, wherein I coordinated the transition from the legacy system, and supervised all aspects of implementation and testing to facilitate a successful launch with minimal downtime.
