In West Virginia, substance abuse is the number one public health problem. This year alone, it is estimated that more than 152,000 West Virginian's will be in need of substance abuse treatment. Of these, many will require long-term residential treatment. Closed doors in the form of a shortage of treatment beds, long waiting lists, and a confusing process will likely meet many of these when they reach out for help. The Gatehouse expects to open these doors by providing additional long-term residential treatment beds and a more user-friendly process from which to access substance abuse treatment services.
