Feb. 2006 - Apr. 2006This was a short term contract to establish the security risk to the core business applications of a discovered vulnerability. This role required one week of offsite black box testing against the target host and then one week of onsite reporting role attending meetings with developers twice a day to establish fixes and then perform regression tests against a fix applied host. I was additionally responsible for the penetration testing and security assessment of new applications both web and non-web based prior to being launched into the live environment. The usual remit for a project was almost a pure black box application penetration test primarily in the web domain.

Nov. 2005 - Feb. 2006To perform initial penetration tests to identify problems in the current security of the network and the reliability of the IDS/IPS system already in place. I performed this task using new found scripting skills rather than relying on applications to carry out penetrations for me. During these tests I identified over 50 different methods of entry onto the corporate network from outside of the firewalls.

Sep. 2003 - Nov. 2005Day to day running of a small 5 person IT security team helping local businesses maintain high levels of security and helping them attain BS7799 and ISO 17799. Security Auditing and penetration testing was one of my main responsibilities carried out at regular intervals. I often found need to deploy secure VPN and SSL-VPN solutions for home and remote office users to ensure that the entire network security plan was not compromised by remote operators. In addition to the more exciting penetration testing and the more paper orientated BS7799, ISO 17799 and ISO 27001 compliance assignments, I would be regularly performing standard Network and System Administrator roles such as building new Solaris machines, maintaining Exchange Servers and helping business users with their desktop issues.
