It has a total of more than 650 bed capacity and is a tertiary hospital providing a range of services including maternity, neonatal, pediatrics, maxillofacial, orthopedics, neurology, cardiology, elderly care medicine, surgery and a regional hyper-acute rehabilitation unit for patients with additional on-going acute medical needs. It also has a large Accident and Emergency Complex and is one of eight Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) in London. The Accident and Emergency Department has a 60 bed and 20 chair capacity that is fully integrated into 5 parts: pitstop/ambulance bays, Rapid Assessment Unit (RAU), high dependency unit (HDU) beds, assessment beds, resuscitation rooms, clinical decision unit (CDU), and pediatric beds. The ED department nurse to patient ratio is dependent on the area in which the nurse is assigned on the daily roster: Resus beds is 1:2, HDU is 1:3, assessment bay is 1:4, and CDU bay is 1:5 ratio. Pitstop is responsible for patient triage from ambulance, while RAU is responsible for self-presenting patients as well as patients referred externally e.g. by GPโs, other hospitals, etc.
