H&MFacilities Manager for U.K. and Ireland
Dec. 2009 - Apr. 2014In my role, I took charge of facilities management efforts for a vast retail portfolio spanning the UK and Ireland, with a focus on maintenance, procurement, and service delivery. Leading a team of 11 regional facilities managers, I prioritized maintaining high standards of property upkeep and ensured strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
One of my key contributions was steering a strategic shift in our global perspective, transitioning from an "area builder" mindset to a more integrated facilities management approach. This shift allowed us to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and better align our operations with overarching organizational goals.
I played a pivotal role in professionalizing the role of Facilities Management as part of a global working group, which resulted in elevated standards and best practices being adopted across the organization.
Recognizing the importance of long-term compliance and maintenance, I introduced statutory mains electrical testing across our entire portfolio, ensuring that our properties met regulatory requirements.
By negotiating and managing cleaning contracts, I established and monitored high standards through targeted service level agreements, ensuring that our facilities remained clean and presentable to customers.
I led strategic planning and execution of facilities management initiatives, prioritizing proactive investment in maintenance services. This approach resulted in an 80% proactive versus 20% reactive investment ratio, optimizing our resources and minimizing downtime.
Directing the procurement and management of utilities, I oversaw the transition to 100% green energy sources, aligning our operations with sustainability goals while maintaining rigorous control over a total budget of £39 million.
