Process Engineer II - Technical Support: Tar Value Chain
SasolProcess Engineer II - Technical Support: Tar Value Chain
Feb. 2019 - May. 2022Witbank Area, South Africa• In my current capacity I am acting as the unit engineer for the Gas liquor separation (GLS) units. • Technical support interface between Synfuels and Group Technology to aid Group Technology in getting CTF East ready for handover to Technical Support after start up. Assisting with HAZOPs, MFD reviews, interface documentation, process monitoring tool and OWAP identification and registration. • Investigation into achievable total oil concentration as input for service level agreement document between GLS and Phenosolvan. Evaluation of historical data and statistical evaluation of oil concentrations to propose a logical specification. • Development of logic tree for problem solving when high total oils are identified. Evaluation of all potential influences and reasons why a production off specification can be experienced. Development of a logical method to evaluate in a chronological order various causes for root cause identification. • Comparison of high oily gas liquor temperatures from U211 (gas cooling) with relation to gas loads and ambient temperatures. Gas loads are not the main attributer to high temperatures as same high temperatures can be seen over gas load range of 600-850 km3n/h. Concern was raised with Gas Cooling technical team. High oily gas liquor temperatures causes a concern to internal equipment integrity. • Evaluation of oily gas temperatures expected during Gas cooling sub-train cleaning. With phase experiencing sub-train cleaning, a 13oC temperature in oily gas liquor was experienced. Recommendation for maintenance not to plan GLS cooler work on the same phase on which Gas Cooling in planning sub-train cooler cleaning. • GLS audit of tanks connected to the RTO. Recommendation on legislative requirements if tanks are routed to vent to prevent RTO trips. Tanks not connected to the RTO has been identified and projects initiated to address necessary concerns.
Process Engineer II - Techncial Support: Rectisol
SasolProcess Engineer II - Techncial Support: Rectisol
May. 2018 - Jan. 2019Witbank Area, South Africa• As part of my rotation to Rectisol, My responsibilities included acting in the position of unit process engineer as well as providing project support and guidance for projects within the designated areas. • Coordinating the Process Engineering teams’ during September 2018 Rectisol West factory shutdown/turnaround. • Identified high methanol readings in Rectisol off gas to the Sulphur Unit. Initiated off gas sampling campaign to identify areas of concern. Saving of R620 000 as a result of the fitment of new demisters within the identified columns. • Identified equipment installation deficiencies during shutdown such as theU12VL209 being without a demister. Initiated contact with supplier and drove the commercial process. Demister was replaced successfully without incurring any shutdown schedule impact. • Oversaw the critical path activities on main wash column floor sealing and achieved a better-than-specified leakage rate as a result of new process implementation. • Custodian of Rectisol OWAP (Operation Within Agreed Parameters) design parameters. Initiation and leading of process investigations as well as initiating necessary actions when, and as required. Monthly reporting of deviation occurrences and highlighting concerns where applicable. • Assisted as lead process engineer for the redesign of the U12ESx73 propylene condensers. Quotes identified new condenser with stainless steel shell and duplex bundles and with heat exchanger having a diameter increase of 100mm to be in the order of R10mil cheaper per heat exchanger compared to old heat exchanger re-tubing. • Temporary solution identification and implementation for U12ES124 hot regeneration reboiler. Temporary solution rerouted condensate to Rectisol methanol slop system for methanol recovery. • Did NFPA substance classification calculation for the Phase 2 parallel modification project. This allowed decrease in scope and thus not impacting construction schedule.
