I also carried out feasibility studies and supervised technical due diligence in order to appraise technical and commercial viability of projects. I also planned, scoped and then implemented construction projects. We were involved throughout the construction process, from conceptual design, through to detailed design, construction, trouble shooting, testing and verification and ongoing monitoring and maintenance. As well as technical design delivery, I was involved in the day to day management of the team. The team had approximately 8 engineers and interfaced routinely with the other disciplines within the company. I regularly worked with structural engineers and in multi-disciplinary teams. Due to my education and experience, I was easily able to work cooperatively resulting in greater efficiency.

This role involved liaison with client to ensure common intent, negotiation of budget, project planning, data collection, data analysis and reporting. I managed my own specific projects as well as general management of the testing department. The role included purchasing new equipment, maintaining equipment and calibration. I constantly looked for new and innovative ways to improve company processes. Finally, I was also responsible for development and implementation of the Pile Driving Monitor (PDM) – a new piece of pile testing equipment. Generally, this role involved tendering, planning and managing construction projects and included design and build contracts. In 2008, I achieved third party accreditation for the company Integrated Management System (IMS) to the Australian and International Standards for Quality, Safety and Environment - AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 (Quality), AS/NZS 4801 (Safety) and AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004 (Environment). After certification, as well as managing various projects, I was made the manager of the company Integrated Management System (IMS) for Quality, Safety and Environment. This required me to audit the system working on various projects as well as recording and analysing reporting data from site on Quality, Safety and Environmental issues. Finally, I was required to compile an annual general report on the company performance with recommendations based on statistics and reporting gathered throughout the year.

My role as a Site Engineer involved taking construction projects from inception before the tender phase through design, construction and then handover to the client. This included site management of geotechnical construction projects including sheet piling, permeation grouting, piling and anchoring. The role involved construction project costing, design, site management, client liaison, communication and negotiation. Whilst at GFWA my main project was the Finucane Island Port Upgrade in Port Hedland, WA for BHP this was a $7 Million project and involved construction of sheet pile retaining walls and ground anchors for an excavation 30m deep, 100m long by 50m wide. Also, installation of the permanent support (shotcrete, mesh and rock bolts) for the Transgrid Cable Tunnel.
