The database size was 2 terabytes before we started and managed to archive 500 gig of data. The data was deleted from the production database and then moved to archive tables in different tablespace. Then the Oracle DBA moved the deleted data to tape since the company required 7 years of history. This was a collaborative project between the Oracle DBA and myself since I did not have DBA access rights to the database. I also coded a brand new application that had to do substance movement between vials and trays. We tested the live system with food color and water to ensure that substances were moved to the correct locations. This was done in Oracle pl/sql in a Unix environment with an pl/sql editor.
