VES LLCSenior Software Engineer
Aug. 2022 - Jan. 2024Tampa, Florida, United States• Supporting the JATF (Join Acquisition Task Force), a Rapid Prototyping lab for SOCOM, by building web applications, microservices, and Infrastructure as Code. • Containerization: I utilized Docker and Docker Compose extensively because our applications need to be cloud agnostic. I was the go-to Docker Compose developer on the team to make sure everyone’s microservices worked together. • Backend Web Development: Built web applications to manage watchlist data to identify when our sensor network found an identity or electronic device. Created a real-time alerting system using Golang to handle high volume message parsing and Python as the Backend Rest API. We utilized MQTT for our embedded devices and Kafka for our facial recognition system as our message queues. • Technology Scouting: Tested outside vendor technology to identify if the technology will help SOF operators and what is feasible going forward. We saved the Department of Defense 7 years and millions of dollars in R&D. In particular, Lazarus AI has an OCR to structured JSON program where they needed $250,000 to test and implement for our needs versus a contract with a big DoD firm that was asking for $3M. • AWS: I was the AWS admin and cost optimizer. I saved the team over $2k/month on our billing and worked on lifecycle management of data and when it needed to be deleted or converted to long-term storage. Used boto3 to interact with S3 and other services to remove old data, upload files, and read AWS SQS queues. • Worked with Junior Engineers to accelerate their learning curve, development time, and improve their critical thinking skills. • Skills: Python, Golang, FastAPI, MongoDB, PostGIS/pSQL, AWS, Docker with Compose, Kafka, MQTT, Vagrant, Terraform, and Linux CLI via SSH.
