Doctoral Fellow
European Southern ObservatoryDoctoral Fellow
Dec. 2006 - Dec. 2008Santiago, ChileFunding: ESO studentship programme (2006) website: http://www.eso.org/sci/activities/FeSt-overview/ESOstudentship.html Main Research Project: “Sizing red giants with AMBER: the royal road to the asteroseismic modelling of COROT data." Project description: - Measuring red giant stars angular diameters using the Astronomical Multi BEam combineR (AMBER), the near-infrared/red focal instrument of the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) and combining them with COROT (COnvection ROtation and planetary Transits – space mission: http://smsc.cnes.fr/COROT/) asteroseismic data. Results and Achievements: - Gained experience in writing successful observational proposals and in coupling theory with observations. - Gained experience in interferometric data reduction, analysis and modelling. During this time, I was the P.I. of an observational proposal accepted by ESO (ESO observing proposal are peer reviewed by Paranal Observing Programmes Committee) and granted observing time on one of the most active observatories, the Paranal Observatory. It was also one of the few proposals accepted for the Very Large Telescope Science Verification in 2008. - Reduced and analysed the interferometric of two COROT (star) targets.
Doctoral Researcher
Department of Astrophysics, Geophysics and Oceanagraphy - University of LiegeDoctoral Researcher
Jun. 2004 - Oct. 2006Liege, BelgiumFunding: Research contract - Prodex programme Main Research Project: Asteroseismology of Red Giant stars. Project description: - Computational modelling stellar evolution and internal structure; - Theoretical calculation and interpretation of low-intermediate mass red giant stars frequency spectra. Results and Achievements: - Analyzed the frequency spacings behavior with respect to global stellar parameters such as the stellar mass and radius. - Derived an expression for the frequency spacing called the small separation which depended solely on the stellar mass and radius. - Collaborated in research of the stability of non-radial modes in red giant stars.

Apr. 2002 - Mar. 2004Noordwijk, The NetherlandsFunding: Traineeship at the ESA/ESTEC - FCT Research Fellowship Award website: https://www.fct.pt/apoios/cooptrans/traineeships/index.phtml.en Main Research Project: Data analysis of theoretical asteroseismic time series for the Eddington and COROT space missions. Project description: - Development of data analysis tools for future space missions in Asteroseismology. - Analysis of synthetic time series and fitting of solar-like oscillations. - Mode identification in terms of the degree of the spherical harmonics. - Determination oscillation mode parameters (frequencies, amplitude and line-width). Results and Achievements: - Contributed to the development of procedures for the extraction of frequencies from solar-like oscillations power spectra for data analysis of the Eddington project. - Participated as a data analyst in the Hare-and-Hound exercises of the preparation of the COROT project. - Devised a technique to extract long-lived modes embedded in a common p-mode spectrum. This technique was validated using Monte Carlo simulations. - Gained experience in space mission planning.
