Oct. 2011 - Jan. 2013The Media Relations Manager is responsible for writing, editing and production of external communications tools for the Nature Conservancy of Canada's National office. Primary activities will focus on building and maintaining key media relationships, monitoring NCC's media exposure and seeking proactive ways to advance and enhance the organization's profile. The position reports directly to the Chief Communications Officer, and works cooperatively with National and Regional staff across all functions, as well as external partners, contractors and suppliers. Key Responsibilities: Manage national media relations efforts to enhance NCC’s recognition and credibility; Proactively seek opportunities for earned media coverage; Write, edit, update and distribute media materials, including, but not limited to, news releases, advisories, information and background packages, newsletters, op-eds and letters to the editor, promotional pieces and web content; Media relations support for regional offices; Serve as federal government liaison for the Natural Areas Conservation Program, coordinating joint announcements (events and news releases); Serve as media spokesperson for NCC, from time to time; Research and write speeches and public presentations for NCC National staff; Coordinate media events and interviews; Ensure prompt and consistent response to general and media inquiries; Cultivate and maintain close media contacts especially within national media outlets, and specifically within science and environment beats; Manage media monitoring functions, including seasonal and annual analysis of brand exposure; Issues management: ongoing monitoring of relevant issues, briefing senior staff to ensure effective responses of emerging issues; Manage and maintain contact database; Contribute to social media strategy and efforts.
