Dr. Santiago has worked in industry, government, and society. As a licensed CPA, she first worked with Sycip, Gorres, Velayo and Associates, and then with what is now known as Globe Telecom. She pursued her Master in Business Management at the Asian Institute of Management on a full-time basis and from there, applied her skills at the Office of the President of the Philippines. She then moved to human resource management consultancy before establishing a solid career in the academe. Upon her retirement, she began helping non-profit organizations. Dr. Santiago was, for a long time, the primary researcher in the country for family business studies. She wrote a book, published articles in local and international journals, and taught family business management to college students at De La Salle University. While at DLSU, where she was a recipient of multiple research awards, including the prestigious national award by the National Research Council of the Philippines, Dr. Santiago established the country’s first Family Business Studies Center under the Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies. The Center provided research, training, and consulting services. After almost two decades in DLSU, Dr. Santiago was invited to join the Asian Institute of Management to hold the Basant and Sarala Birla Professorial Chair in Asian Family Corporations. The Professorial Chair allowed her to render local training and consulting services as well as to conduct research on family business management within Asia. Most research, training, and consultancy focused on succession management, in-law participation, family dynamics, and the drafting of family constitutions. Dr. Santiago is a fellow at the Family Firm Institute, based in the United States where she was able to obtain advance certificates in Family Business Advising and Family Business Wealth Advising. She is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
