My main focus was on writing human factors requirements based on collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs), storyboard visualizations and cognitive walkthroughs of future operational scenarios, and an analysis of the integration and display of information in NextGen systems and tools. This work has been particularly eye opening in understanding the needs of stakeholders and users as well as the importance of project development schedules and collaboration with system engineers in adopting research findings into the design of a large-scale, network centric air traffic control system.

Their colorful imaginations and unique perspectives, along with their lively Italian personalities, made for one of the most rich and fulfilling experiences of my life. From writing and illustrating our own books, to writing song lyrics and inventing parallel universes, we transformed learning into a daily adventure.

I worked as a research assistant in the Magnetoencephalography (MEG) Lab where we used the brain imaging technique to measure magnetic fields produced by electrical activity in the participants’ brains while they listened to music. I was responsible for managing participants as well as translating scientific articles from German to English and scanning and organizing scientific documents into computer database.

I set up the brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and placed electrodes on participants’ heads to record their brain waves. The most rewarding aspect was establishing relationships with participants and watching their progress.

Oct. 2004 - Oct. 2005My year as an English tutor in Berlin taught me how to be independent, resourceful, and adaptable in all environments. I definitely had to step out of my comfort zone after moving to a foreign country where I did not initially speak the language or understand the culture. I worked for a German family with three young girls (ages 7, 10, and 11), who I helped with homework and English. I designed their daily curriculum, coordinated with teachers and parents, and took them on weekly field trips. It didn’t take long to fall in love the city and totally immerse myself in the culture and language.
