At the same time, I was completing my advanced research on the malaria causing parasite, which also included managing a Biological Safety Level II laboratory with live cultures. My work with the students involved teaching them laboratory best practices/procedures, facilitating a weekly help session, designing laboratory exams for 200+ General Biology students, and grading lab assignments. As part of my research, I secured over $15K in grants to fund my projects testing and utilizing Quantitative Trait Analysis to study the parasite that causes malaria with the aim of elucidating the genes responsible for growth. I received praise and recognition for my poster presentation at the Sigma Zeta National Conference in 2014 and presented my research at the American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene Conference in 2014.
