Since the COVID-19 pandemic spread out in Bangladesh, the government and other stakeholders were focusing on protecting the medical professional and the security forces who work as a frontline service provider to prevent COVID-19 transmissions in the community while the cleaners and waste handlers were not received any support or protective equipment. They have been continuing their job collecting household waste and medical waste. They are deprived and hopeless, even they are also potential carriers to transmit infectious diseases. ICAN TRUST first initiated a campaign in March 2020 for supporting the cleaners and waste handlers with safety equipment and relief to safeguard them and prevent community transmission. ICAN TRUST made a collective effort by engaging the civil society, community, and raised crowd funding and through social media. We have been able to reach out over 2500 individual with safety equipment, relief including consensus development training including cleaners and waste handlers, volunteer, photojournalists. In Bangladesh, HFG partners with Health Economics Unit (HEU) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) to raise awareness on Universal Health Coverage (UHC). I led the advocacy and communications activities in Bangladesh. Implemented a comprehensive media and communications strategy; also catalyzed the communication initiatives with partners, including with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and its Health Economics Unit, James P. Grant School of Public Health (JPGSPH), BRAC University, and Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC), Institute of Health Economics, University of Dhaka. Accomplishments: Successfully completed all closeout materials and deliverables of the project including End of Project Report, Media Report, Briefs and Learning Resources. More than 3,350 individuals—including local health professionals, civil society, teachers, students, elected and government officials, journalists, and private sector—reached through HFG’s UHC awareness activities. Over 130 print and electronic media journalists connected on UHC awareness for action, resulting in more than 150 UHC-related news articles published. Leveraged the Healthy Bangladesh platform and the Municipal Association of Bangladesh (MAB); reached 11 districts and the capital Dhaka to raise awareness about UHC.

Jan. 2014 - Jun. 2017BangladeshThe Bengal Tiger Conservation Activity (Bagh) was a pioneer environmental project—funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to protect the Sundarbans ecosystems. The project implemented by WildTeam, supported by Smithsonian Institution (SI), USA and Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) under the leadership of the Bangladesh Forest Department. I led the communication and outreach functions of the USAID’s Bagh Activity included developing and implementing the communication strategy, branding and marking plan for mobilizing the whole thematic areas of communication, partnership, and gender engagement. Accomplishments: I led the implementation of the TigerCaravan, a tiger-shaped bus that traveled 47 districts, displayed more than 200 mobile exhibitions with Street Drama shows to raise mass awareness about tiger conservation in Bangladesh. The TigerCaravan pulled more than 250,000 visitors across the country and reached around 2.5 million people on social media during its four-month tour started in February 2016, and being visited by the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. I have managed a two-year communications campaign titled as ‘National Tiger Awareness Campaign’ and the Mother-like Sundarbans campaign a five-year-long Social Behavior Change Campaign to change the behavior of local communities in the Sundarbans landscape, initiated in 2012. The campaign has been remarkably successful, so far ​it has increased 74% of adequate knowledge and positive attitude of the target audience from the baseline 30% (BCAS/2nd follow up/Dec-16).

I led the communication and business development activities of WildTeam for further strengthening the overall capacity of the organization. Accomplishments: I led the implementation of ‘Wild Rickshaw Challenge’ event, where 20 adventurers from 8 nations cycled more than 400km on rickshaws across Bangladesh to protect the tiger and the Sundarbans. The journey took place over 10 days from 16-26 February 2013. I have coordinated with Futerra Sustainability Communications, UK for developing a new brand identity of Wildlife Trust of Bangladesh and successfully launched the fresh identity as WildTeam in the biodiversity business industry in 2012. Acted as a part of project proposal development team for participating in the bidding process for donor-funded projects and successfully won the USAID funded Bengal Tiger Conservation Activity (Bagh) project.

I led the Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) functions of Sundarbans Tiger Project, designed and implemented a five-year-long Social Behavior Change Campaign strategy utilizing social marketing theory to change the behavior of local communities in the Sundarbans landscape. Accomplishments: Successfully analyzed the Knowledge, Awareness, and Practice (KAP) survey in 5 districts of the southern part of Bangladesh for identifying the determinants of selected threatening behaviors of the adjacent people of Sundarbans. I led the first conservation communication strategy by utilizing social marketing theory to change the behavior of local communities in the Sundarbans landscape, and initiated a five-year-long Social Behavior Change Campaign titled as Mother-like Sundarbans.
