Ponce School of MedicineMicrobiology Research Technician- Professional Services Contracts
Mar. 2010 - Aug. 2011PonceAfter earning a solid academic foundation on the basic principles involved in tumorigenesis, I decided to search for an opportunity to do volunteer work at the Ponce School of Medicine. That opportunity arrived in November 2008 under the supervision of Dr. Idhaliz Flores; I began the pursuit of my research career. I honed my laboratory skills in various molecular biology techniques, in vivo work, and minor animal surgery. After two years of volunteer work, I had my project titled: "Role of HDAC3 in the Pathophysiology of Endometriosis" under the NIDDK program (STEP UP 2009). I traveled to Los Angeles, California, to do a poster and oral presentation, where I got an excellent evaluation. After this incredible experience, I was contracted as a research technician in the Endometriosis Disease laboratory at Ponce School of Puerto Rico for eight months. My project was titled: "Expression of the Cell Cycle Regulator GDF11 is Downregulated in Endometriosis" and presented at the Society of Gynecological Investigation (SGI 2010). I worked with advanced research techniques during this two-year research project, such as Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction, Immunohistochemistry, western blot, tissue culture, and tissue microarray. I gained further insight into the pathways and epigenetics associated with tumor progression. On the other hand, as a Research technician, I helped and was part of the three Graduated Student thesis projects, working directly with your experiment and science techniques.
