North Carolina OperaDirector Of Development
Oct. 2018 - Jul. 2021Raleigh, NCI managed fundraising projects to increase corporate, foundation and individual investment in the Triangle’s only professional opera company. Traditionally we perform at least one concert, one recital and two fully staged opera productions each year. (During 2019-20, we performed one concert (Siegfried), one fully staged opera, Pagliacci, and hosted tenor Lawrence Brownlee in recital before COVID-19 restrictions forced us to postpone performances). I helped increase individual interaction with NC Opera thanks to VIP receptions, summer meetups, social media and website communication about our mission. We hold an annual fundraising Gala that nets more than $100,000 for the Opera's projects and programs. During 2020 we hosted our first-ever remote live broadcast due to COVID-19 restrictions, and were able to exceed net proceeds for four of the last 10 Galas. I worked on the 2021 Gala which will be in person on October 16, 2021, safety restrictions permitting. I worked with the Fund Development committee of the Board of Directors as well as the Board and staff to strategize creative ways to support performing artists and engage opera lovers during this challenging time. We held three "Opera About Town" outdoor live performances as well as other initiatives.

Sep. 2015 - Mar. 2018Cary, NCI managed fundraising efforts for the Center (including onsite and outreach therapy programs and the Lucy Daniels School for preschool through grade 5) through a variety of tools: personal solicitation, annual fund, corporate and foundation giving and special events, with an annual goal for 16-17 of $425,000. I supervised an associate director in managing communications for LDC including two websites (Center and School), a quarterly printed newsletter, direct mail pieces, an e-newsletter, social media and advertising. I coordinated volunteer committees for two major special events, a multi-week chef competition called Cooking for a Classic and a golf tournament, both raising funds and visibility for the work of the Center. I interacted frequently with board members and the board’s development sub-committee on fundraising and communications strategies for the Center. I was responsible for writing local, state, regional and national foundation and corporate grants for various aspects of the Center and for monitoring implementation of those grants. During 2016-18, I worked closely with leadership and consultant on two strategic projects, an organizational assessment and the resulting capacity building project.
