African Wildlife FoundationCohort 3- Charles R. Wall Policy Fellow
Apr. 2024CamerounIn April 2024, the Charles R. Wall Young African Policy Fellows program on International Environmental Governance, jointly facilitated by African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), ushered in its third cohort. It's an unparalleled opportunity for me to leverage my skills in international environmental governance while relying on my competencies in Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL), to enable me to understand the stake of biodiversity conservation governance in the Congo Basin. The program allows me to develop the skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities necessary to actively contribute to the sustainability of African biodiversity. - Policy Development and Advocacy: Understand and engage in biodiversity governance by developing the capacity to influence policy decisions at national, regional, and international levels. - Negotiation and Diplomacy: Gain hands-on experience in international biodiversity negotiations and evaluations, learning how to effectively participate in shaping global and regional policies related to biodiversity conservation. - Leadership and Community Building: Strengthen leadership skills through workshops, networking, and hands-on learning, while actively contributing to the growing community of African leaders focused on biodiversity and sustainable development. - Practical Application and Simulation: Apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios through workshops, simulations, and practical involvement in policymaking processes, enhancing problem-solving and strategic thinking. - Promotion of African Sustainable Development: Align efforts with the African Union's Agenda 2063 to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development across Africa, with a specific focus on biodiversity as a key driver of prosperity and growth.
