Public Health & Laboratory Systems Strengthening Consultant | Virologist | Academic Leader I am a senior public health and laboratory systems strengthening consultant with over 20 years of experience advancing diagnostics, surveillance, and research capacity across Southern Africa. I am an Associate Professor of Virology and Molecular Diagnostics and a Stanford- and Harvard-trained public health specialist, with extensive experience working at the interface of science, policy, and health-systems transformation. I have led and delivered multi-million-dollar programmes funded by the US NIH, WHO, and other global partners, focusing on laboratory systems strengthening, infectious disease surveillance, diagnostics innovation, and workforce development. My technical expertise spans HIV, TB, respiratory viruses, and emerging pathogens, with strong proficiency in ISO 15189, SLIPTA/SLMTA, genomic surveillance, and pandemic preparedness. I regularly support governments, universities, and international agencies through consultancies on national laboratory strategies, surveillance system design, research training programmes, and diagnostics policy. My approach is practical, implementation-focused, and grounded in real-world health systems, strong donor engagement, and measurable impact. Consulting interests: Public health strategy; laboratory systems strengthening; pandemic preparedness and surveillance; virology and diagnostics; research capacity building; and academic and institutional leadership.
