My SamarDeckhand, Lead Deckhand, Bosun
Feb. 2013 - Jan. 2016MaltaWe ran with a live-aboard owner that uses the vessel for 5 months during the summer in the Mediterranean. Leading a team of 6 deckhands and operating a 24h shift pattern, I was responsible for the smooth running of all deck, tender (launching and recovering via davits or cranes) and helicopter operations – reporting directly to a Chief Officer with extremely high standards and expectations. A highly complex 2159GT yacht, we carry a 36’ Chris Craft Corsair – Twin Screw, 25’ Custom Venice Limo – Single Screw, 25’ Chris Craft Launch – Single Screw, 23’ Rigid Inflatable Catamaran – 250bhp Outboard, 18’ Rigid Inflatable Rescue Boat and a 20’ Melges Racing Sailing Yacht as well as a Mini Cooper S Works and a Bell 409 Helicopter. In addition to my responsibilities for managing routine maintenance of the tenders and toys, I have very much enjoyed the training and continual development of junior crew members in all aspects of deck work and tender driving. A busy multi-generational family boat, I am also responsible for interacting with, and training guests on the use of the water toys, Seedoos and Jetskis. During season we run a 24/7-watch witch includes gangway watch, bridge watch, lookout, anchor watch and general check to ensure safety to the vessel and all its crew. In some cases, we have had to assist service and bartending. Being an older yacht, I have become highly proficient in the application and use of a wide range of paint systems – AwlGrip, International, AwlBrite etc.
