PhysMath School After A. ShahinyanFounder & President of "PhysMath" Volunteer Union
Oct. 2020Yerevan, ArmeniaIn 2021, I co-founded the “PhysMath” Volunteer Union at our school whose main goal was to give students a chance to take part in volunteering activities despite their most-demanding school curriculum. Currently, the union has 250+ members of ages 13-21 from schools and universities all over the world. During the past year, we have organized several community based projects and events, such as the following. MathCamp22 - A summer school held in the PhysMath school from June 27 to July 3. During a week of studies, we organized a Mathematics specialized course for children of ages 10-12 from all over Armenia. The camp was free, thereby, available to everyone. We had 300 applicants from all over the country, and chose 75 of them, based on the results of the Math exam. Thanks to our efforts, many children from regions gained the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in Mathematics and explore their talents in this field. GenerationIT - A summer school held in the PhysMath school from August 1 to August 7. Thanks to collaborating with MuTex School, we organized a 30-hour-long free programming course for children of ages 11-17. From 1000+ applicants we chose the best 80 who had a chance to participate in the classes at the school, and besides them, we had 300 participants from regions of Armenia who joined the classes in the online format. After successfully completing the course, we helped many of our alumni to find internships and paid jobs in the labor market. United Global Generation - the largest summer school ever organized in Armenia. The camp hosted 350 in-person participants from Armenia and Artsakh. The lessons included special topics in Mathematics, Logic, Discrete Mathematics, Combinatorics, Number theory, and a specialized 1-week-long Programming and Operations Systems course taught in English for a small number of students.
