Dec. 2020 - May. 2022Nairobi, KenyaA grant awarded for women postdoctoral researchers from low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs). Funded by the IVVN and the Canadian government’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to support career progression in veterinary vaccinology and accelerate the development of vaccines for livestock and zoonotic diseases.

May. 2019 - May. 2023Nairobi KenyaProvide high level scientific and technical support to a project on phages as a One Health approach for the replacement of antibiotics, and reduction of drug resistant nontyphoidal Salmonella, in poultry farms in Kenya.
Post Doctoral Fellow
University College CorkPost Doctoral Fellow
Feb. 2017 - Jan. 2019School of MicrobiologyMy current research activities include understanding phage-host interactions, the molecular biology and comparative genomics of bacteriophages infecting lactic acid bacteria. A part of this work will also focus on the development of novel anti-phage strategies.

Sep. 2012 - Jan. 2017Faculty of Bio science EngineeringMy PhD work focused on the genetic elucidation of the influence of bacteriophages on the behaviour of the food pathogen Salmonella Typhimurium with particular interest on newly identified invasive non-Typhoidal salmonella strains from Sub-Saharan Africa. This study generated new insights in phage-host co-existence and how phages evolved into a more stable association with their host. Altogether, the study of this novel phage provided some clues as to why this phage is only found in these particular strains and the implications these phages may have on their host adapting to the new niche.
