DEST testing
Applewood Primary SchoolDEST testing
Apr. 2015 - Apr. 2015Grabouw- DEST testing – 23 learners; Grade 1 At Applewood I did extensive testing to see whether children had Dyslexia or not. Not many people in the country are able to do this test and I am fortunate to have been trained to do so. After the tests, reports and graphs have to be formed and interpreted. Applewood is a top school in South Africa and is rather small. It shares a unique characteristic as it is one of the most family orientated schools among the region. It is an eco-country school and focuses on all round activities. Sport, culture and academics all share an equal value. Outdoor education is highly focused on in the school. Parent are encouraged all the time to be a part of the school and its activities.
Learning Support teacher
Stellenbosch Waldorf SchoolLearning Support teacher
Jan. 2015 - Dec. 2015Cape Town, South AfricaAt Waldorf I worked with children who have difficulties with English and Mathematics. I worked with children on a one to one basis as well as sometimes in groups. We focused on basic foundation work, reading, writing and being able to comprehend various texts. In Mathematics we worked with concepts from addition all the way to algebraic equations. Working at Waldorf was a very different but enjoyable experience for me. The focus of the school is preparing children for everyday life. It is not the same as traditional schools and the belief is that such lessons cannot be duplicated in the traditional school environment. Waldorf focuses on building the strength of the inner person. Creativity is encouraged in all the learning areas. They teach children from all areas and help them to develop into adults that can cope with living in a challenging world and can help to build sustainable communities.
Facilitator in grade 5
Bridge House Primary SchoolFacilitator in grade 5
Jan. 2014 - Dec. 2014FranshoekI facilitated two boys in year 5. I was required to attend meetings regarding the curriculum, make an independent learning program for both of the boys. I needed to attend all the classes with the boys and make differentiated worksheets for the two of them as well. On many occasions I needed to scribe for the one boy too. Bridge House is an independent school in the Cape Winelands of South Africa. The school focuses on fostering a ‘can do’ attitude. It is known for recognising individualism. During my time at Bridge House I was fortunate enough to be House Mistress of the boarding house and this meant that I was on duties such as supper, homework, wake up and many more.
