Deliver small-group or one-on-one instruction based on students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Modify and adapt general education curriculum to meet students' learning needs. Implement accommodations and modifications (e.g., extended time, visual aids, simplified instructions). Reinforce skills in reading, math, writing, and social-emotional learning as needed. Use multisensory and differentiated instruction techniques. 2. Classroom Management & Inclusion Support
Maintain a structured and supportive learning environment. Assist students in general education classrooms by providing inclusion support. Help manage behaviors using positive reinforcement and behavior intervention strategies. Follow behavior intervention plans (BIPs) when applicable. 3. Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with special education teachers, general education teachers, and paraprofessionals. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress (if required). Attend IEP meetings or team meetings (if the assignment is long enough). Provide feedback to the returning teacher on student progress and any concerns. 4. Assessment & Progress Monitoring
Administer informal assessments to track student progress. Document student performance and maintain records. Assist in collecting data for IEP goals. 5. Compliance & Professional Responsibilities
Follow school policies, IEPs, and special education laws (IDEA, ADA, etc.). Maintain confidentiality of student records. Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students. Substitute teachers may also be responsible for attendance, grading (if applicable), and reporting incidents. 6. Flexibility & Adaptability
Be prepared to work with a variety of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, speech/language impairments). Adjust teaching strategies based on student needs. May need to cover different classrooms or duties as assigned.
