Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)Front-End Developer (Student Council Digital Platform)
Oct. 2024 - Sep. 2025Karen ward, Nairobi County, KenyaCommissioned by the JKUAT-Karen Student Council, I set out to solve a simple but pressing challenge: how to unify campus communication and make student life smoother for everyone. Before my project, updates and resources were scattered between WhatsApp groups, emails, and paper notices—a frustrating situation that left many students out of the loop. I built a reliable, easy-to-navigate student portal that brought clarity and accessibility to the entire community:
- Designed and developed a custom portal that could serve thousands with ease.
- Used React.js, JavaScript, and Tailwind CSS to achieve fast load times and a sleek, responsive feel.
- Combined announcements, events, and resources into one central hub—no more hunting for information across platforms.
- Collaborated closely with council leaders to make sure the portal’s features matched both administrative needs and what students wanted most.
- Guided council members through deployment and hands-on training, empowering them to run and update the portal independently. The impact was immediate:
- Communication fragmentation vanished, as dozens of WhatsApp groups gave way to a single, trusted platform.
- Student engagement soared—everyone could now access important updates and resources from one place.
- The Student Council gained a polished digital presence, boosting its credibility and making governance more transparent. But the project didn’t just streamline tech—it helped unify the student body. By building an inclusive space where everyone had equal access to campus news, I fostered fairness, connection, and a sense of belonging. For me, this is what exceptional web development is all about: solving real issues, empowering communities, and creating digital solutions that people trust and enjoy.
