Apr. 2019 - Mar. 2020East London, South AfricaFostered from sub-tropical and tropical climates, and maintained by a dedicated team of parks agents, conservationists and wildlife protection services, South Africa’s Eastern Cape is host to a variety of provisional parks, home to indigenous biodiversity, ecosystems and biomes of natural wonders. KEY FUNCTIONS: Supported the biodiversity ecologists in the Agency with a range of tasks, as follows: Provided logistical support to field and technical researchers. Provided administrative support to key ECPTA personnel. Conducted data collection and data management across a variety of projects. Produced GIS products, including maps and shapefiles, for management and decision makers. Compiled species lists for all the reserves from a range of sources, including ground-truthing species lists (involving extensive plant identification). Compiled SQL data queries in Microsoft Access. Utilised GPS, GIS and QGIS for georeferencing of non-GIS imagery, plotting points submitted by rangers/managers from reserves and providing tailored maps. Mapped vegetation, roads, alien species invasion, and unlawful activities and other encroachments on reserves for early detection monitoring using QGIS. Created and maintained the equipment inventory repository. Procurement – compiled specifications and tender documents for IT equipment. Learnt and applied a range of data quality, data cleaning and data validation techniques. ACHIEVEMENTS • A 10% increase in SQL queries for Microsoft Access • A 40% increase in speed of procurement
