Sam's ClubDirector Of Software Engineering
Jan. 2017 - Dec. 2018Bentonville, ARDriving innovations that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen trust in the brands I serve, I was chosen by Sam’s CTO to assemble engineering teams and spearhead worldwide engineering efforts (e.g., full stack, mobile native, data science, DevOps), a $10M budget, and 5+ ongoing programs. In the end, seeing both people and organizations rise together is what keeps me passionate about my work. Able to connect the dots between business and technology, I helped deliver a multiyear Fresh Transformation by partnering with SVPs to align our IT roadmap with business priorities. Firstly, I presented the CTO and SVP/GMM of Sam’s Club Fresh with a real-time, automated perishable inventory system that turned a $200M shrink opportunity into a multiyear program, thereby realizing $2.68B profit growth with $13B annual revenue impact for the Sam’s Club chain. Our Fresh Sales platform contributed significantly in raising annual fresh food sales by $325M and operationalizing $50M ROI. Not only that, 1) the use of ML and data science algorithms were key in enhancing fresh food forecasting and ordering capabilities; 2) we laid groundwork for uninterrupted digital operations through strong internal relationships; 3) scaled member-facing and associate tools across the enterprise with self-healing apps; and 4) improved the member and associate experience by introducing real-time inbound inventory, club ordering, and productivity tools, which we secured by introducing compliant, Tech Ops standards. In support of overhauling Sam’s Club Fresh Dept. food operations, I rolled out technology hardware (incl. iPads) to team leads and armed 10,000 frontline associates with automated digital, tracking, and alerting tools, most notably cutting $12M in direct club store infrastructure costs. Focused on building a high-performing team of engineers, I hired a senior professional technologist, drove college recruiting, and led tech meet-up hiring events.
