Work Background
Director of Software Engineering
KrogerDirector of Software Engineering
Aug. 2021 - Sep. 2025Cincinnati, OHBrought on board by VP of Kroger Store Technologies, I stepped into a key technical leadership role to fast-track the first-ever, full-scale digital transformation for Kroger stores. Managing a $65M budget and 40 Engineering Platform Teams (400+ engineers total) across multiple global locations, my people and I are currently operationalizing multi-cloud (Azure and Google Cloud), software and data engineering strategies. Prompting $600M ROI over 3-year capital return, I worked closely with senior executives and 3rd-party vendors to align our multiyear strategy for success. Paving the way for $1B in annual sales growth, my teams and I provided scalable, sustainable product and inventory management systems in support of nationwide operations and $200M in daily product throughput. We also supported 2,200+ stores and 50,000+ unique daily users with various in-store platforms and modernized digital applications to boost customer and associate engagement as well as inventory availability by 97%+. In addition, modernizing the technology stack and optimizing multi-cloud environments were critical to improving performance, reliability, cost efficiency and enterprise security protocols in all stores. Driving AI and data integration, improved real-time BOH accuracy from ~50% to 78% over 4 years, which directly enhanced online sales and order pickup fulfillment. In addition, we cut 100 minutes of lag between BOH updates and stores via near-real-time feeds; removed reliance on legacy systems and processes with data science that allowed Enterprise Data Picking Services to stream in 200+ stores and enabled smarter inventory decisions by teaming with Retail Insights to feed daily bulk BOH data into the OOO engine. After implementing self-healing applications and app service DevOps monitoring, not only did we ensure 99.999% high availability and resilience, but we also minimized downtime for mission-critical workloads and processed over 6 billion data transactions per month.

Senior Director of Software Engineering
Sam's ClubSenior Director of Software Engineering
Jan. 2018 - Dec. 2021Bentonville, ARAfter simplifying complexity to engineer a Fresh Sales platform and Club Ordering application in my previous role, I was promoted by the CTO to build a new greenfield ecosystem for Sam’s Member Pricing platform and champion cloud, software/hardware and data science strategies. Strengthening internal collaboration and communication and turning software vendor relationships into solid partnerships were critical. Always putting people at the center—coaching, mentoring, and empowering them to grow, I managed a thriving 100-person area team of software engineers, data scientists, product managers, program managers and agile scrum masters across 5 global locations (California, Texas, Arkansas, India and China) while serving as engineering liaison to senior leadership and providing board presentations to Walmart and Coca Cola CEOs on successful Fresh Systems adoption and utilization. Upon establishing a PMO, enterprise architecture, best practices, agile delivery discipline and accountability to accelerate execution, I managed a $25M budget and streamlined 10+ parallel-running projects. Notable projects included: 1) Cutting manual order entry from 45 minutes to <1 minute with a new order mgmt app. 2) Increasing customer perceived value with a member-based pricing platform. 3) Enabling our marketing department to offer member-specific pricing with an event-driven architecture that leveraged high-volume retail data processing. 4) Modernizing ERP and pricing platforms through cloud integration. 5) Achieving $200M ROI by driving integration of real-time demand forecasting and merchandising systems (incl. pricing, replenishment, and assortment). 6) Attaining $80M ROI with a new custom-built, member-based pricing platform (incl. cloud integration and new ERP application). 7) Mitigating operational risk, we enforced IT architecture compliance guardrails and security best practices equipping multiple international regions with 24/7 access to resilient auto-recovery systems.

Jan. 2017 - Dec. 2018Bentonville, ARDriving innovations that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen trust in the brands I serve, I was chosen by Sam’s CTO to assemble engineering teams and spearhead worldwide engineering efforts (e.g., full stack, mobile native, data science, DevOps), a $10M budget, and 5+ ongoing programs. In the end, seeing both people and organizations rise together is what keeps me passionate about my work. Able to connect the dots between business and technology, I helped deliver a multiyear Fresh Transformation by partnering with SVPs to align our IT roadmap with business priorities. Firstly, I presented the CTO and SVP/GMM of Sam’s Club Fresh with a real-time, automated perishable inventory system that turned a $200M shrink opportunity into a multiyear program, thereby realizing $2.68B profit growth with $13B annual revenue impact for the Sam’s Club chain. Our Fresh Sales platform contributed significantly in raising annual fresh food sales by $325M and operationalizing $50M ROI. Not only that, 1) the use of ML and data science algorithms were key in enhancing fresh food forecasting and ordering capabilities; 2) we laid groundwork for uninterrupted digital operations through strong internal relationships; 3) scaled member-facing and associate tools across the enterprise with self-healing apps; and 4) improved the member and associate experience by introducing real-time inbound inventory, club ordering, and productivity tools, which we secured by introducing compliant, Tech Ops standards. In support of overhauling Sam’s Club Fresh Dept. food operations, I rolled out technology hardware (incl. iPads) to team leads and armed 10,000 frontline associates with automated digital, tracking, and alerting tools, most notably cutting $12M in direct club store infrastructure costs. Focused on building a high-performing team of engineers, I hired a senior professional technologist, drove college recruiting, and led tech meet-up hiring events.

Jan. 2016 - Dec. 2017Bentonville, ARAdvancing rapidly to positions of increasing leadership and responsibility across multimillion-dollar project portfolios, I directed global, multiyear enterprise-level initiatives (e.g., fuel systems, POR, inventory, supply chain, and retail systems) and highly complex engineering infrastructure projects across Walmart and Sam’s Club sites. In this key role as a customer liaison, my focus was on effectively allocating staffing resources, infrastructure, cloud, and software licenses. I generated $300M ROI for Sam’s Merchandising by modernizing inventory management (SKU creation) and advanced shipment-notification receiving systems. In addition, I fast-tracked a $10M system automation program for the fresh/perishable business line and debuted a Buy-4-Less tool to centralize buyer allowance and overhauled the process to review and analyze buying strategies.
