Oversee state agency communications offices, including strategic message development, crisis planning, community and high-profile event planning, and media strategy. Liaison to reporters in local and national media markets. Won reelection campaign in 2010 by rebuilding/repairing relationships and public perception and by restructuring communications approach to focus on proactive control of media messages. Gained multiple national recognitions and awards, including top campaigns of 2010, Public Official of the Year 2009, Greatest Education Governor 2010, National Technology Champion, BIO Governor of the Year 2010, and Stem Cell Action National Leadership Award 2010. Secured national press coverage and placements on MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and others by convincing national broadcast media producers of Governor’s nationally relevant message. Improved public perception by developing unedited forums, including a public television show, “Ask the Governor” and a series of local town hall meetings where constituents could speak with the Governor directly and unedited.
