The Feminist Campaign SchoolCo-Founder
Dec. 2020CanadaThe Feminist Campaign School launched in 2020 filled with passion to help people who haven't seen themselves represented in local government learn the ins and outs of running a campaign - and how to do it differently. We challenge how we use power, the governance systems and what it upholds, and how to approach elected leadership in new ways. As of October 2022, half of the participants who took the candidate stream and ran for local government, were elected. We funded this entire program through 1:1 fundraising asks and a GoFundMe Campaign to ensure that no participant would be turned away due to lack of funding. Every scholarship request was met in full. We created and delivered the content, the toolkits, and sought out consultants to ensure the program was fully accessible, and that we were challenging colonial structures through a decolonization audit. In December 2022, we launched a two-year research project funded by Women and Gender Equity Canada asking the question "why do progressive women choose not to re-offer in municipal leadership?" Our project includes surveying and interviewing elected officials in BC and Alberta, a literature review, and a solutions-based workshop of previous and current elected officials. The research and solutions will be presented to decision-makers and stakeholders in 2023. Learn more at http://www.Feministcampaignschool.ca or http://www.localrepresentation.ca
