I'm a registered nurse working for 5 years in a busy Toronto hospital. Currently a part of the Interprofessional Resource Team (IRT), I provide shortage coverage all over the hospital. Areas I provide coverage to include: emergency department, surgical wards, medical wards, and ICU stepdown. I spend most of my time working in the emergency department. Working for IRT has allowed me to learn to adapt to work in different environments with different people. I have learned how to access resources in a constantly changing environment and how to continue to provide compassionate and exceptional care despite this. Working as a nurse I have honed skills in time management, patient care, resource management, and prioritization of care based on acuity measures. I have also worked as a mentor, teacher and leader as a preceptor to nursing students and to new hires. As one of the more senior members of the IRT team I am passionate about teaching and welcoming the oncoming nurses.
