Cherokee FederalWeb Designer Specialist II
Jul. 2023As a contractor supporting the CDC’s Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice (DEHSP) via Cherokee Federal, I play a key role in managing and enhancing the division’s digital presence and communications. With a public trust clearance, I have led complex website migrations and rebuilds for critical environmental health programs—including Asthma, Mold Health, and AAQB—onto the CDC’s new Digital Front End (DFE) platform as part of the agency-wide “Clean Slate” initiative. My responsibilities span end-to-end web content management using the DFE platform: building pages, populating content, fulfilling maintenance tickets, troubleshooting technical issues (such as identifying and coordinating fixes for platform bugs), and ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance through remediation and best practices. I successfully managed the launch of key resources, including the Asthma Data pages and the Asthma Cost Calculator. Beyond website management, I provide vital digital communications support. I assumed full ownership of the monthly EH Nexus newsletter, leading a strategic redesign and streamlining the production workflow, from content curation and layout to navigating the CDC’s eClearance process. I also design a range of communication materials (graphics, banners, slide decks) and provide critical technical support for high-profile DEHSP webinars, division All-Hands meetings (including creating engaging content like interactive games), and emergency response coordination calls (e.g., Lead-in-Applesauce, Diamond Shruumz). I collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), technical teams, writers, and leadership to ensure project success, manage stakeholder reviews, contribute to SOP development, and support internal communication needs, including maintaining and updating the DEHSP intranet site.
