Southcoast Hospitals GroupDirector of Microbiology
Jun. 2012 - May. 2013Director of Microbiology at Southcoast Hospitals Group in New Bedford, MA 2012-2013 Important strides were made in the interaction of the Microbiology lab with the Infectious Disease team, Infection Control and Pharmacy. Lines of communication were opened and an antibiotic stewardship-reporting scheme was developed in collaboration with all departments. This position required oversight and technical direction for all aspects of Microbiology. Competency assessments were developed and all SOPs were revised and updated for inspection readiness. Molecular Diagnostics testing was implemented. Member of six committees within the hospital system. Developed and set up an automatic cascade reporting scheme for antimicrobial reporting using both Vitek 2 and Meditech. The setup involved complex knowledge of settings in both Vitek 2 and Meditech. The scheme reported first tier formulary antibiotics followed by second and third tier antibiotics based on their susceptibility patterns. This effort was directed at reducing the resistance rates of organisms. Implemented molecular testing for Group B Streptococcus and Group A Streptococcus. This resulted in higher physician satisfaction and more accurate reporting.
