Board of Directors
Modern Learn LabBoard of Directors
May. 2023www.modernlearnlab.org Working with a group of change agents to build supportive educational and mental wellness programming through arts-learning into the current County-wide supportive housing system using the wok of Hollywood Arts as Proof of Concept. Housing alone is not the solution and this is the approach currently challenging Inside Safe. Housing must include by-choice programming that participants volunteer to take part in. Based on my work with Hollywood Arts in 2005, we've seen that arts-based education ignites intrinsic learning motivation which moves people into participation. Classes teach arts skills while simultaneously developing supportive community; managing trauma and depression; and teaching soft and vocational skills which transfer into employment readiness effectively disrupting the street to charity cycle and ending chronic homelessness.

Founder and Executive Director
Hollywood ArtsFounder and Executive Director
Apr. 2005 - Mar. 2010www.hollywoodarts.orgFounded Hollywood Arts, the only free, arts-based, progressive educational agency in the nation to disrupt conventional thinking around how to help homeless, high-poverty young adults. Our students were exiting foster care, running away from violence and trafficking, LGBTQ+ and marginalized in the over 18 care model. Accomplishments • Used human-centered design - this means I listened to the kids I wanted to help! - to create organizational model which could disrupt the cycle of charity to street. To get this new-to-market idea off the ground, I wrote the business plan, incorporated the organization, recruited an incredible thirteen-person foundational Board of Directors, and built the school in downtown Hollywood. • I raised a ton of money in under four years through strategic and controversial but smart relationships with the nascent video game industry. Also raised money through traditional corporate and foundation leaders like Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Disney, NBC Universal, The William Morris Agency, Insomniac Games, Electronic Arts, AT&T, Kaiser Permanente, Variety Children’s Charity, The Nathan Cummings Foundation, The Weingart Foundation, The Parsons Foundation, and the Mortimer Levitt Foundation. • We had over 370 homeless students taking classes in music, acting, fashion, computers and writing and due to Facebook and our early adoption of the platform we can say with certainly that the majority of our students are now, 10 years later, gainfully employed and housed Develop a young person's sense of self-worth and agency, create community, and you have helped someone chart their own life, breaking the circle of poverty and homelessness.

Founder, Executive Director
The Open MuseumFounder, Executive Director
Feb. 2002 - May. 2003The Open Museum piloted the concept of first person curating which meant we were the first, non-culturally specific organization, to invite community participants in the curatorial process in place of third person academics to create more accessible museum exhibitions. Recognized by the American Association of Museums. Accomplishments • Remembering the Riots. The Open Museum organized the only commemorative exhibition on the 10-year anniversary of the L.A. Civil Unrests. Developed partnerships with former L.A. City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas and exiting Mayor Eric Garcetti for funding as well as with the Skirball and Hammer Museums for program collateral and educational materials. The exhibition toured the City of Los Angeles for 4 months and was featured both on local news shows and in the LA Magazine. We worked with community groups throughout South LA and Koreatown • In the Zone. The Open Museum produced an exhibition showcasing the photography of location scouts during a time when filing was fleeing California. Worked with 40 location scouts and the Pacific Design Center to build the exhibit on multiple floors. The catalogue became a lobbying tool at the State Capitol in Sacramento to highlight the versatility of filming in California.
Consultant, Strategic Plan and Feasibility Study
Museum of Los AngelesConsultant, Strategic Plan and Feasibility Study
Jan. 2002 - Jan. 2003The City Museum would provide a place to record, display and educate about the history of Los Angeles. With the rapid proliferation of museums worldwide, Los Angeles remains one of the few major metropolises without a museum dedicated exclusively to the story of its own history and its own people. Throughout the world, in cities such as New York, Seattle, Paris and London, city museums have been built to interpret, document, and preserve the history and material culture of their geographic regions. In turn, these museums have become both strong economic forces to their cities and sites of community pride, dialogue, and civic engagement for their visitors. A city museum would provide the opportunity to learn about the unique history and dynamic cultural diversity that informs, propels and constantly reinvents the Los Angeles identity. The mission of the City Museum of Los Angeles is to educate the general public about the culture, art and history of Los Angeles; to build and sustain community; and to promote the diverse communities that constitute, influence and contribute to the identity of the City of Los Angeles.
