In addition, the Local module offered suggestions in the users’ main feed to increase awareness of our local discovery tools. Impact: Served as tech lead/Senior developer. Converted a very outdated user experience to one that was more modern (incorporating elements of Material Design) and more streamlined, with powerful filtering options as well as the ability to save places for later interaction. Participated in forging the direction the new user experience would take, and took the lead in adapting designs for iOS into an Android-specific, Material-compliant experience. Identified several areas that duplicated code and consolidated them into a modular, reusable and customizable set of widgets and other classes.

An Android app allowing Sports Illustrated print subscribers to download article, image and video content to their Android devices for offline viewing. Impact: Sole developer of the application front end. Customized existing Android widget classes to create a unique magazine cover-swipe experience. Project: Real Simple Gift Guide. An iOS app suggesting gift ideas for various categories of people, with links to websites from which those gifts can be purchased. Impact: Removed references to an aging Three20 class library and created custom controls to handle product swiping, image gallery and other visual features. Project: SI Vault. A Flash-based, “skeuomorphic” virtual magazine reader allowing users to browse through 54 years of Sports Illustrated magazine. Impact: Developed the page-turning feature that is central to the virtual magazine user experience. Project: Editable Mockup Map (EMM). A client-server application allowing mockup managers to assemble ads, circulars and editorial content in a magazine issue based on complex, proprietary, ad-placement algorithms. Impact: Overhauled a primarily text-based mockup editor used by 50+ titles to present a fully-graphical, drag-and-drop WYSIWYG interface allowing mockup managers to visually construct issues in preparation for publication.
