May. 2015 - Mar. 2016Gardez, AfghanistanProvided human rights related advice, operational monitoring and expertise for the south-eastern region of Afghanistan on mandated activities of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) including the protection of civilians, child protection, gender equality and the elimination of violence against women, the prohibition of torture/ill-treatment in detention facilities, peace and reconciliation and transitional justice. Duties included: • being the main international focal point for human rights issues representing UNAMA and Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR); • monitoring and reporting on human rights and international law violations, providing progress and regular ad hoc ‘flash’ reports of significant violations, and drafting substantive analysis and contributions based on field work for the UNAMA and OHCHR’s internal and external reports/publications; • providing legal technical advice and organisational leadership to prepare consultations, training, events and workshops with governmental officials, community leaders, civil society organisations, and communities; • contributing to the development of country and regional strategies, and initiating and participating in the development of mandated activities; • management and supervision of staff.
