Coordinated all Research, Data and Business analytics; MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) activities including State specific M&E plan development, data validation, DQA, coordination meetings, capacity building in data management and supportive supervisory visits to strengthen PHC health management information systems in Kano state. In order to embed an evidence-based learning environment in Kano State malaria elimination program (SMEP): Supported efforts to strengthen comprehensive, timely and accurate routine health information management systems that integrate malaria as much as possible; did by reviewing the existing DQA within the HMIS and DHIS for its effectiveness and identifying areas of improvement and providing support as required; leveraging on existing support by other partners (M&E monthly meeting and the periodic DQAs conducted) to address specific areas identified for improvement; strengthened the capacity of SMEP and state staff to analyze and interpret results from this routine data and take action based on the findings where needed. Supported the state SMEP to establish an operational research unit, set up and train the team on operational research, identifying research questions from routine data analysis; report writing and manuscript development; and also worked with Kano State to identify data for decision making coordinators to continuously lead the process of improving the capacity of relevant personnel and the state, to analyze and utilize data for decision making and effective implementation.

In Ensuring the availability of high quality routine data for all malaria indicators / parameters (both case management and prevention) and other project related data from all levels of health facilities, led the set up and maintenance of a project database and linkages with the national DHIS version 2 platform for reporting, supported the state to conduct data quality control activities like data validation, DQAs and Supportive Supervision visits to health facilities. This improved the timeliness and quality of data reported on DHIS2 and by extension, the quality of decisions made in propelling the intervention towards attaining its objectives. For accountability, worked with project team to facilitate the documentation of activities in form of reports and ensured proper archiving of such for easy access and reference; and participated in project assessments, evaluations and design including development of survey protocols with support from country office and advisors.

Facilitated training and supportive supervision of data officers in the state and LGAs on the use of HMIS data collection tools, data quality assurance and the DHIS2 which contributed to Kebbi State’s health data quality and timely reporting rate from 5.8%-92.4% on DHIS2 from 2013 to September, 2016 . Conducted quarterly DQAs in selected health facilities in collaboration with LGA and State malaria elimination focal persons leading to an improvement in the quality of data reported in Kebbi state. Supported data management during LLIN campaigns and provided technical assistance on LLIN data tracking and reporting system. 2,186,973 LLIN were distributed in 21 LGAs. The project achieved a 99.28% net redemption rate, while post campaign evaluation showed 91.4% retention rate and 57.9% hanging rate in the State. Participated in operational research and scientific documentation by making data available for evidence based write-ups. Supported the implementation of community intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnant women (cIPTp) by training of project staff; managing the data and learning component. The data collected and analysed demonstrated a significant increase in the uptake of IPTp and ANC attendance as a result of the intervention.
