Sep. 2017Colorado, United StatesAre you feeling like you have lost momentum? Are you struggling to lead your team? Are you struggling with the tug of war of being an involved parent and being present at your job? I am a single parent of 3 children who were involved several different extracurricular activities and was the Vice President of Program Services for a non-profit agency. My seat was to the right of the CEO during our weekly leadership meetings. The financial history of the programs that I oversaw was typically in need of additional financial support. One Monday morning during the weekly leadership meeting it was my turn to give my department updates. I shared that my department had an 18% net gain ($300K) along with a few other relevant points. The CEO looked at me and said, “is that all?” I glanced quickly down at my notes to ensure that I hadn’t missed anything then I said, “yes”. He proceeds to inform the leadership team that my department has had its best financial year and I had just completed my first full year of employment as Vice President. This achievement was a milestone for me and the department. Needless to say in my mind the song “All I do is win” by DJ Khaled was on repeat. I evaluated my situation to determine how I was able to handle the responsibility of the job and the demands of being a single parent. I realized it was my habits. Good habits are how I was able to strategize, organize, and navigate the responsibilities of both worlds that I love dearly. You can gain recognition and fulfill your potential with the right habits. We will access your situation, figure out what you want to accomplish, and take action to improve your leadership and career. You will learn different approaches for effectively handling common obstacles, how to strengthen your emotional intelligence and develop the skills necessary to SOAR. Achieving success on your own terms is POSSIBLE.
