There are three main determinants of intention: (1) attitudes about the behavior, (2) perceived subjective norms, and (3) perceived control over the behavior. • The specific aims are to: Aim 1: Use qualitative methods to explore the perspectives of diverse mothers of preterm infants about social and cultural factors related to TPB domains that influence their intention and actual adherence to safe sleep and breastfeeding. Aim 2: Investigate associations between maternal race/ethnicity and adherence to safe sleep and breastfeeding among mothers of preterm infants, and explore the extent that modifiable multi-level factors and TPB domains mediate these associations. • Conduct interviews in Haitian Creole with Haitian mothers about their experiences at Boston Medical Center’s NICU and hospital experience and post-delivery experiences including safe sleep and breastfeeding which are evidence-based preterm infant care practices that have shown to be protective against sudden unexpected infant death • Analyze interviews and conduct qualitative research
