Dec. 2022Boston, Massachusetts, United States• The Boston Public Health Commission’s Homeless Services Bureau (HSB) provides emergency shelter, social services, and housing search services to Boston’s homeless citizens. In the course of this work, HSB staff are often impacted by traumatic or highly stressful incidents, such as fatal and nonfatal overdoses, acts of violence, and individuals experiencing mental health crises.
• Provide clinical supports to staff including emotional support and stabilization options to promote a culture of care
• Participate in capacity building initiative designed to promote mental and behavioral health workforce well-being. As an extension of this initiative, partnered with HSB from December 2022 until June 2023 to design and pilot activities of socioemotional support
• Engage remotely or in-person individuals and/or groups of HSB staff following critical incidents in activities designed to promote emotional stabilization, awareness of the impact of trauma, positive coping strategies and bridging to supportive resources
• Meet with HSB Behavioral Health Director, Wellness Manager, Program Directors and/or other relevant staff to plan upcoming activities, uplift recommendations to leadership based on work with staff, navigate any concerns or challenges, etc. • Maintain HSB staff support Gmail account for communication and coordination purposes
• Document # of contacts and any salient, de-identified themes related to vicarious trauma, burnout, workforce well-being and culture of care within HSB
• Ensure privacy and confidentiality of individuals involved
